Parent Code of Conduct
Parent Code of Conduct Agreement
Shawano Boys Hoops Organization
revised 6/6/24
The mission of the Shawano Boys Hoops Organization is to provide support, instruction and organization of youth basketball for boys in grades 3-8. Player skills and fundamentals will be developed while encouraging sportsmanship, competition and fun in a team environment. As a parent, you hereby pledge to provide positive support, care and encouragement for each child participating in our Hoops organization by following this Code of Conduct:
• I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all children, managers and coaches (including those of an opposing team). This applies to every game, practice or any Hoops event.
• I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all referees, tournament officials and parents at every game and event. I will not openly question a referee’s judgement or honesty. Officials are symbols of fair play, integrity and sportsmanship. Questions to the officials should only originate from the head coach.
• I will remember that my son’ s game of basketball is for youth- not adults. I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my son and other children ahead of my personal desire to win.
• I will be supportive of the coach, refrain from coaching from the stands. Conflicting signals can cause confusion. Remember your coach is volunteering his/her time to provide a recreational activity for your son.
• I will applaud good play by our team and by members of the opposing team. I will always refrain from making hostile, negative comments about the opposing team. I will contact a member of the Shawano Boys Hoops Board and report any type of physical or verbal abuse or non-fair play that I witness.
• I will accept the results of the game. I will encourage my child to be gracious in victory and turn defeat into victory by working towards improvement. I will encourage my child to congratulate the opposing team.
• As a parent and fan, I will not harass, abuse, disrespect or cause a disturbance against an opposing coach, player or official. I will treat with respect all players, fans, coaches and officials.
• I grant permission for my son’s image to be used in print, video or digital media by the Shawano Boys Hoops Organization. These images may be used without further notice.
If a parent is ejected from a game, the consequences will be:
• First offense: The coach will need to inform the Board of the occurrence. A meeting with the coach, parent and the Board will be required before the parent will be allowed to attend another game.
• Second offense: The parent would be banned from attending any future games for remainder of season. If a parent chooses not to comply, will result in a mandatory Board meeting.
If a parent is verbally, physically or using any social media to BULLY, or put a player or a coach down, the consequence will be:
• First offense: The parent will not be allowed to attend one tournament.
• Second offense: The parent will not be allowed to attend any games for the remainder of the season.
• If it continues, the police may become involved, and at which time the Board will relinquish the necessary information upon request.
• Depending upon the severity of the offense, the Board may choose to bypass offense 1 & 2.
Parents and spectators play an important role in promoting happiness and success in youth sports. Demonstrate good sportsmanship through positive support for all players, coaches and officials at every game and practice.
I have read and understand this Code of Conduct as described above as well as the Hoops philosophy and guidelines. I understand that any failure to abide by this code of conduct could result in forfeiture of your son’s tournament participation as well as their continued participation in our program for future events. In addition, I understand that failure to accept the Code of Conduct will make my child ineligible to participate in any Shawano Boys Hoops sponsored activity for the calendar year.
